Los Angeles based designer and creative director of GREYLIN, Dora Lim began her infatuation with fashion at a young age while growing up in Brazil. With her parents starting a manufacturing business when she was a toddler, Dora spent many afternoons sneaking into the production floor observing sewers and cutters in lieu of doing homework. She quickly became enthralled by the craftsmanship of making clothes."I remember watching my mother make scarves out of left over yards of fabric," says Dora. "I loved the design process from start to finish and at seven years-old I created and sold my first scarf."After her parent's moved the family business to the US in 1989, Dora bypassed her parent's wishes for her to take over the family business and worked as a paralegal assistant. With two years behind her, Dora was unfulfilled at her current position, realizing that she still yearned for the same passion she had as a child for clothing."Like a lot of teenagers, I was rebellious and didn't want to work in the fashion industry as I was expected to," says Dora. "I did something completely different to spite my parents, but discovered that I was denying something that I truly loved."To fully grasp the business and technical aspects of the fashion industry, Dora enrolled at Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising in LA and graduated with a degree in fashion design and product development. Upon graduating, Dora started working for the family business and in spring 2010 she launched GREYLIN.While conceptualizing the launch of her new womenswear line, Dora found out she was pregnant with her first child. Convinced that she was having a girl, Dora chose the name Greylin for her future daughter. After discovering she was having a boy, Dora realized Greylin might not be a suitable name for her son but was the perfect name for her other baby. Soon after, GREYLIN clothing was born. The inspiration for GREYLIN evolved from her international travels, discovering unknown elements, childhood memories of Brazil, abstract textiles, and interior design. Intermixing timeless everyday classics with bold patterns and colors were the driving principles behind Dora's contemporary line GREYLIN."I sought out to build a collection that was modern, easy, yet classic," says Dora. "I wanted to make pieces that would easily go with other items in women's closets and could transition for various occasions."Melding perfectly crafted silhouettes with unique prints and colors, Dora provides women with a line that remains timeless throughout seasons at an obtainable price. This incredible line has caught the eye of fashion magazines, critics, and celebrities such as People Style Watch, Cosmopolitan, Blake Lively, and Ashley Greene to name a few.GREYLIN has also grabbed the attention of major boutiques and department stores across the globe. In less than two years, Greylin is now sold seven countries and major US stores such as, Piperlime.com, Anthropologie, and Bloomingdale's.
