About the role:

The successful candidate will be expected to guide Udemy expansion in China in alignment with country’s policy and regulation.  This is a high visibility and impactful position that will influence and coach a team of sales, marketing and product deployment in China.  This position requires you to have a proven track record of working with Chinese government agencies, have a strong understanding of Chinese public policy and enforcement practice.  Effective navigation with internal stakeholders through cross-team collaboration within the Udemy internal teams is also critical.

To be successful in this role, you must be an excellent communicator, highly motivated, effective working with cross-functional/cultural teams, including Udemy’s local partner in China and able to get things done quickly.  The successful candidate will bring strong strategic thinking and sound business judgment, along with quantitative skills and the ability to think creatively and work independently.

In this role, you will:

• • Developing and maintaining relationships with public officials and their staff
  • Communicating effectively with individuals and groups
  • Analyzing and interpreting legislation and policy timely and thoroughly
  • Communicating complex concepts through oral and written mediums
  • Preparing a variety of written communications such as reports, testimony, and factsheets
  • Managing and coordinating special projects
  • Developing and implementing strategic plans as well as responding to short-term objectives
  • Use engagement strategy to proactively identify, disseminate and provide advice on political, policy and regulatory changes/practices and associated risks
  • Set up a strong communication channel between the Udemy China team and relevant internal teams with a timely view of the country’s priorities, risks and opportunities
  • Attention to detail and strong follow-through
  • Working with people from diverse academic, cultural and ethnic backgrounds
  • Travel to China frequently and/or extended-stay in China from time to time

Minimum Requirements:

• • 10+ years of experience with senior level government relations/public affairs/public policy-oriented engagement
  • Excellent judgment, capable of making smart decisions in the face of ambiguity and imperfect information
  • Excellent speaking and writing skills (including presentation skills) brought to all tasks, including policy and project-oriented messaging, memos, speeches, talking points and other internal and external documents
  • Strong understanding of end to end delivery of regulatory frameworks on corporate/vocational training industry in China
  • Strong expertise and experience in government affairs and public policy
  • Ability to instruct and manage consultants working with public affairs agencies as required
  • Ability to work well under pressure and tight deadlines
  • Experience working in a policymaking or government position, or similar experience at a public policy firm, in-house government relations organization or public institution
  • Ideally, a mix of both government and policy advocacy experience
  • BA/BS degree or equivalent practical experience
