Retail Stores, Churches, Drive-Ins, and More Will Reopen in L.A. County and the City of L.A.

Mayor Eric Garcetti also said that in-store shopping and church services could resume in the City of Los Angeles on Wednesday, as long as stores and religious institutions follow the county’s guidelines.

 

According to state health regulators, counties that wish to reopen have to meet certain standards to be able to do so, including having no more than 20 COVID-19 hospitalizations on any single day in the past 14 days, and fewer than 25 new cases per 100,000 residents in the past 14 days. In a closed session of the L.A. County Board of Supervisors today, Barbara Ferrer reportedly provided supervisors with data that indicates the county meets those standards.

 

As for retail stores, they can operate at 50 percent capacity, and churches at 25 percent. Community pools, drive-in theaters, and flea markets can also reopen, per the state. The City of L.A.’s website lays out the current safety protocols and best practices for various businesses.

 

“It is very clear that we have earned this day,” Garcetti said this evening. “Los Angeles, it is time to move forward to reopen, to look at more that we can do safely, safely, safely.”
